I'm signing because I'm deeply concerned upon ongoing criminalisation of seafarers despite long-term activities of the IMO, EMSA and other bodies which haven proven useless. I was involved in a petition released by the German Masters & Shipofficers Association (VKS) in 2007 which, along with a harsh and ultimate peitition of the American Shipmasters Association, led to the release of German Capt. Schroeder who had been convicted of gross negligence and manslaughter when his ship drifted accidentally into a shore crane killing a technician. I hope my signing will contribute positively towards the release of Capt. Lasota.
